The Goose in the Corner

I designed my Golden Goose quilt on paper, with a fair amount of grumbling.

And I decided to put EQ7 on my wishlist, which I know Santa checks. And he did!

One of the first things I did was to put my design for the Golden Goose into the program. And it only kind of worked, because the program doesn't think anyone would ever want a seam in the corner on one end of the quilt and triangles in the corner on the other. I felt both irked at EQ and pleased that my brain-and-paper technology was so capable.

Anyway, I drew my block and made the quilt:

And then I made the logical variations (again with the corner issue):

And then I just couldn't stop:

And I imagine there's even more variations to be tried. Anyway, once I saw how very versatile that simple little block could be I wanted to show you all about it!  So I'm planning to share a little "goose in the corner" block tutorial soon.

I like them all but imagine the last one with rows of rick rack going up and an appliqued flower at the top! Fun!

I seriously love this because the basic block is so simple yet all the variations are so striking. (I mean simple?in a nice way,) it would be a great scrap buster. I'm eager to see you tutorial. Thanks!

It is amazing how much time you can play with block arrangements. I have EQ5 and can spend hours doing that.

I love the last two...which is saying a lot as I do not like the geese block. Can't wait for a tutorial as I think I will be making it.

Wow! I would have never believed such a simple block could make so many variations! This would make an awesome fast quilt! I can't wait to see the fabrics you choose.

Wow I love all of the layouts and it looks like so many possibility's. Maybe even monochromatic?! My favorites are the bow ties and the grey and red pattern.

I have the old EQ5, but I still like to play with it........it saves me alot of time that I would have spent with graph paper, and lets me see a lot more possibilities, like you have here. You were very smart in knowing how to use the program within it's limitations and work around them to your needs.

I really like the version that is in teal up there. I REALLY have that in my head now.

Neat. That's on my wish list too. I'd love to give it a try. Worried I'd spend a lot of time dinking around with it instead of sewing! LOL.

Isn't playing with EQ fun?! For those of you with EQ5--you'll be amazed at how much easier and more fun EQ7 is. So well worth the money!! Can't wait to see what else you do with EQ7, Christina.

This looks like so much fun!

The last one reminded me of a vine. I picture it with a brown background and little green leaves.

You are AMAZING! Not only did you inspire me with your FMQA - you inspired me to play with my EQ7 program. I read your post and just had to figure out how you added the quilt diagrams. I have been wanting to do that on my blog for a while now but didn't know how. And I figured it out - without even reading the book! (Heaven forbid I actually read the book!)

And I agree - that corner issue is a real pain. (EQ should work on that - hint - hint.) I like how you "fudged" it to make it work. Your "geese" are really clever! Good job! Can't wait for the tutorial!

I like the grey one with the fuschia geese. Sweet, understated and bold! :) I also love that you gave as million examples of options! :)
