Nerd Bird

When I was stitching this bird on a shirt for my husband I was pretty much on top of the world. "This is gonna look so great!" I beamed to myself. "I can't wait to tell everyone how I did it".

Hello bird. Perfect crow bird that I freezer stenciled with fabric paint and then heat set so it will never ever come out. Bird that I mixed up just the right shade of not-too-contrasty brown so it would be subtle. Bird that I then stitched over to make feathers and beak and eyes. Bird that was a little wrinkly because I forgot stabilizer, but I didn't even care. Bird that was rocking my world until I stepped back and...

...wait. Is that a coffee stain? What happened to the bird?

Welllllllllll, dang it. My husband, sweetie that he is, wore the shirt to work anyway. I imagine that approximately a hundred people asked him if he spilled coffee on his shirt. The thought of it makes me almost cry. I am pondering some fabric pens to try and salvage it. The upside is, there's really no way to ruin it at this point.

What a rollercoaster post this is. I really feel for you. The bird really is so beautiful. And so sweet that your husband wore the shirt.

I actually think that is very cool.
You could add more, then it wont look like (to you) a stain, or add some tree around it?
I think you rock!
I never do any crafty stuff for farmboy!

I think I would add more paint in darker shades to intensify the bird- then a bit of black to highlight the eye and legs.
It does look nice when you know what you are looking at!

It's a great bird, but I can see exactly what you mean. I hate it when that happens. It happens to me all the time...I can't quite execute what I see in my head. I think Gene is right, if you intensify the bird more it won't look like a coffee stain. If your hubby won't wear something that's less subtle (like this is), maybe you can turn his shirt into a pillow! Then you could adorn away!

Paint paint paint! I think that will help with your problem. It's beautiful, though!

It IS very very cool, and it's beautiful work - just perhaps a bit subtle for the Average Worker Bee. I'm with Gene, provide a bit more contrast, particularly on the edges and major features, and it'll be fabulous even to the non-fabric-oriented.

Poor little bird and sad you. I agree add more paint and fix that sucker!

It's great! I used to do stuff like that on my DH's shirts... ah for the days when I had time. I agree that some lowlights (like highlights only in dark colours - only my hairdresser knows for sure :)), and maybe outlining in a darker brown would help it to stand out. Forget the subtlety!

If coffee stains all looked that good where would the problem be?? It looks fantastic! The thing is I don't see it as a stain but anyone who does will look closely and see its not... very clever!

Darn it! Close up it really does look great. Maybe you will share the steps of this freezer paper/painting set to never come out process anyways?? Then we can all make coffee stains and start a new trend!! Love it.

This sounds so much like the shirt a freezerpaper stenciled with a fabric spray paint last year. I designed some mountains and a skier, and my intention was to give it to Matt for Christmas. After it was finished, I thought it looked much to shiny for a man's shirt, so I put it in a bag in the bottom of the closet and left it there. I found it again when we were moving last month and told him about it. And of course, the wonderful husband that he is, put it right on and wore it the rest of the day and also wore it to work the next week to show the guys. I was so worried about it, and he was just touched that I made it for him and wanted to show it off. hahaha

Aaaaawwww. What a sweet hubby.
Coffee stain or not, it's beautiful when it's from your beloved.

I do that all the time....
IM brilliant ... genius... and then I see "it" - the reason why it doesn't "work"... dang it!
Honestly, I think it kinda rocks....
Your DH is sweet but maybe he doesn't see "it" and it "works" for him... 'It" works for me...
( is it me or is this starting to sound dirty??)
ttyl- :D
