Bliss-ful union

As we all knew it would, the flickr bee eventually came around to paper piecing, with these Union Jack blocks. I'm not sure I had enough red fabric to feature those white flowers in each strip, but I can't say I thought about it very hard before cutting either.  Dang.

The pattern was made available to our group as a favor from Lynne at Lily's Quilts, but it's not available online. Even though paper piecing is painfully slow and wastes a bunch of paper, the process all makes sense to me. I got a little giddy seeing how super duper flat everything turns out too! Now I'm rarin' to have a go at the "colorwheel geese" pattern at Piece By Number. That's my plan for the PMQG April swap of 12 inch solids-only blocks. Now to choose my colors!

Paper piecing yields fun results. Even though it is wasteful, it makes for a fun opportunity to try to reuse those scraps we cut off in the same project or others. Plus there's also a lot of live and learn in those blocks. Yours came out great!

great block, love the fabrics.
Thanks so much for the link to 'Piece By Number'. I've been wanting to try out paper piecing, love the coffee cups and teapot!

I like the accuracy paper piecing gives me. I personally like how your flowers aren't centeredon each stripe. It adds more interest!

I LOVE Foundation Paper Piecing (I like to make a Foundation Paper Pieced heart for each quilt I complete - for a "Someday Memory Quilt") but I do it COMPLETELY BACKWARDS from most people.

You already know that I am LEFT-HANDED - and don't necessarily do anything the way you're "supposed to" - so if anyone is interested in my variation - I did a tutorial on my blog a couple of weeks ago - .

I'm not a huge fan of paper piecing but for some things it's the only way to go!
