(Another!) Gradient Quilt

I'm knee deep in the "This is the coolest thing I've ever made!" rush that you get when you finish a quilt. You understand.

Blammo. Like my last quilt but in color! I got it finished by letting my kid watch too much Blue's Clues. Yep. I also let her basically encase her bed in packing tape while I was putting the binding on. That's right. Mother of the Year.

I pushed extra hard to get this done for Project Modern Challenge 4. It probably sounds silly, but I enjoyed the thought of Denyse Schmidt seeing one of my quilts. Sure it'll be online and maybe just for ten seconds but it still makes me feel all warm inside.

The quilting is a pointy meander with a little flame flair thrown in here and there. I wanted an all over design that was up-and-down in direction and in theme with the warm-cool dynamic going on in this quilt. Love it love it love it. I also love that when you're six inches away from your quilting you can see every little wobble and inconsistency, and you get kind of frustrated with yourself and swear to never ever quilt after midnight again, but then once you get it out from under the machine and take in the whole thing all you see is lovely lovely texture. Magic.

It's twin sized. Backed with flannel, which is my new compulsion. I want my quilts to be extra inviting and I am happy to report the flannel hasn't been causing any difficulties with quilting. The quilt has been thoroughly stomped and snuggled. My husband asked "You're not going to give this one away, are you?". What a compliment. Ah....I feel happy.

Oh love it! I think the backing is perfect and I'd like to see a little diagram of your quilting too if you have time (after recovering from unwrapping the bed!).

Wow! Look what you did with solids! It's wonderful. I want to trace my finger along that quilting and learn from your designs. I can't stop thinking about the packing tape. I'm guilty of that kind of entertainment too. At least it wasn't scissors. :-)

Oh, my. It is just so nice. The movement of the colors just makes it. Great job! The quilting really adds to it. And, the backing is perfect.

I've started using more flannel for backings too. It sort of happened when I decided to keep one I thought I would send out--just too snuggly to give away, that one was.

This is gorgeous and amazing!

Isn't the Terrain flannel delicious too?! I have some (in the same pattern) waiting to be made into pajamas!

Also, I giggled a lot at your comment about your child watching Blues Clues and encasing the bed in packing tape. Especially because as a mom, it's just a situation I can totally relate to. Usually it's the making dinner hour in the day that ends up leading to that kind of adventure here, haha.

This is so pretty! I am planning to work on scraps after Christmas. I had one quilt in mind, but this spurs on a second! I had some of those 'Blues Clues' days myself. My kids are better for it...cause I needed some ME time too! (PS they are 29,26 and almost 16!)

Awesome quilt! Fantastic colour handling and design, and yay on you for using the flannel backing. I think that gives any quilt an extra, snuggly, dimension! Are you going to submit this one to the Sisters, Oregon show? You should!
