Branching design variations

Oh dear. It's a crazy week over here. Major deadline? Check. Discovering kid is gluten intolerant? Check. Bathroom remodel? Check. But look what I found in my drafts! A nearly finished post! Hoping to pay bills, check email and get back to reading/blogging soon....

My new favorite quilting pattern spawned some variations in my brain.

As a reminder, the original looked like this:

My research suggests you could use pointy leaves (I've stitched this and it looks great!)

Or graduated and stubby

Spirals

Or add flowers on some/all of the stems (I tried this with bigger flowers and leaves and it worked well too)

You get the idea: stitch a stem, put stuff on it, impress yourself! It's just so versatile. Step by step instructions on how to stitch the basic branching pattern (still my favorite) are here.

So sorry to hear about your son. I had to give it up 2 years ago and it's quite a transition. If GF cooking and living are new to you I'd be happy to send you links to some GF blogs that have been really helpful to me. Also, I found this book recently and it is THE best book on GF baking that I've found (there's a part 1 book also)

I'm not affiliated, I just love the book.

Very cool. Love it. Wow, sounds like my life! LOL. Hang in there. I hope to cut a little fabric tonight, but we'll see. I'm always so tired at night, I don't like to work with a rotary cutter when I'm tired. I don't know if I'll get anything cut for my trip....;-)

Check out UDI's breads for your son. They are absolutely the ONLY gf breads that are decent. They make regular bread, hamburger/hotdog buns, and pizza crust.
Also, the gluten-free goddess blog is great
It is a hard road, but do-able!

Thanks for the encouragement on GF living everyone! The kid has enjoyed 2 "special" cupcakes since the change, so as far as she's concerned, life is great!

I've just come across your blog and love it! Thanks for the inspiration with the branching designs - I look forward to having a play. As far as GF goes - it is hard to adapt to but well worth the effort - I was diagnosed with CD a few years back and the change in diet has made me a new person!

Hi.. I am new to blogging and I am excited about your blog. I really like your work. On another note, my son also has a gluten intolerance and I found the BEST cook book after trying several books. It is called The Gluten Free Kitchen. Unlike most cookbooks, this cookbook is filled with breads, muffins, and cakes. And, all of these breads look and taste like regular breads. Your child won't even know the difference.
