Part of the problem

When my husband moved into management from web development he liked to joke that he had become "part of the problem". Well, today I have to admit that I, too, am part of a problem. The problem of quilters coveting Accuquilt Go! cutters. As you can see here, the eagle has landed and inspections are under way.

When I first heard of the cutter I immediately dismissed it as unnecessary, expensive gadgetry. And it may be. But after I spent a humbling afternoon ruining some fabric (and my good mood) with my rotary cutter I  decided it might not be such a bad idea. I am also the child of a woman who stashes all the free hospital socks and pens that she can get her hands on. So I'm going to claim there was some genetic influence leading me to investigate the Accuquilt blogger program. Speaking of genetic influence, I thought I'd use the toddler for reference: that drunkard's path die is huge!

Accuquilt's plan to take over the quilting world one blog at a time is pure genius. I know this because after not winning about twenty Go! giveaways I stopped to ponder the cutter at Joann's, thinking to myself "well, maybe I could buy one...".  That's how it happens! And now, here I am, with my very own Go! cutter. I'm going to cut and sew, photograph and write, and eventually even host a giveaway. And that, my friends, means I am definitely part of the problem.

Oh, I want to be part of the problem too. I went on the website the other night and decided buying the GO would be the cheap part for me. There are so many dies I'd like. I had thought about a baby GO, but the Dresden plate doesn't fit the Baby. What to do?! I'm trying to be a good girl, so Santa can bring me one.

Oh my how I WANT one of these things so bad. Glad you got one. Now can you send me some of your good luck? Can't wait to see what you make 1st!

Argh, you caved! I was counting on you to be a holdout. It's *hard* to keep from drooling when so many are raving about this tool!

Lol, you're right that die is huge.

Oooooo! So jealous! I am having a hard time not caving also! As my husband would say, GJWD. Good job, well done.

*jealous* :-)
I've been eyeing these for so long. Can't wait to hear your thoughts. Having just spent a few evenings cutting out over 630 squares for my next project (and having my tendinitis flare up in the process) I am seriously coveting this.

I am so wanting one of these. I sit for hours on the computer, searching, looking, reading and drooling and not cutting out one piece of fabric, thinking that when I get an Accuquilt cutter, THEN, I will be so much faster, that it justifies wasting so much time drooling over them! Yesterday I gave up and went back to my rotary cutter and actually cut a whole bunch of fabric BY HAND. Gasp, can you imagine such a thing? :)

But, Christmas is coming and I know what Santa is bringing me! If I don't win one first :) PIck me!

Awesome! I am approaching being envious, which is not a good thing. *sigh*

Wow! The cutter is so huge. Hope you're having fun with it!

I'm like you. I have been trying all over to win one without any luck. Every time I go to Jo-Anns, I snoop a little. It's probably only a matter of time. Keep us posted, I want to know everything you think about it. And wowee that is a big die!! Do you have the tumbler? I really want that one.

Oh very exciting!!! Will be checking back to see how it works for you. Have yet to hear any bad things about it which is probably where the problem lies!! I am contemplating buying this myself ~ Have fun!!

I love my GO! and I have been pretty verbal about it. I was one of those that said "expensive and unnecessary.' Today I cut a bunch of scraps with the 1 1/2 die cutter. It would have taken me a lot of time to chop those pieces with a rotary cutter. And yes I do still use the rotary cutter - but not nearly as much. Fast and accurate cutting is so much easier now.

How nice for you to have one. I'm coveting one myself and have it on my Christmas list. Can't wait to see what you make with it.

Oh, I'm so jealous. My husband would KILL me if I bought one of these. Now if I WON one that would be a different story. LOL. My husband DOES NOT UNDERSTAND AT ALL!

Hola Chistina:
Pues a mi me parece una gran idea que tengas tu propia Go! Puede que sea una gran inversión a largo plazo, para ahorrar tiempo y dinero (las telas sufrirán menos el desperdicio, je,je,je...)
No te parece?

My husband just bought me one for our 30 anniversary. Should come today! I can hardly wait to see what you try with yours!!!! Should be fun!

Well, Christina, your story is my story, as well as my daughter's story.
Like you, we entered dozens of giveaways. Between the two of us we should have twice the opportunity of winning.

BUT, NO GO!

I've been lurking around JoAnn's checking the sale tags on the GO! shelf. Every time one sale ends the next begins.
This week the sale price was down to $249.99.

I bit the bullet and paid the price figuring 28.9% less was better than not having a GO! :^(

Glad I bought it. Hubby and I played with it the first afternoon and cut lots of pieces with the die that's included. Learned what we could and could not do with our GO!
That evening and the next afternoon Daughter and I cut just about every small scrap in my Stash.
:^)
:^)

Hugs,
Gerry

Don't think of it as being part of the problem, think of it as stimulating the economy and supporting business. Or think of it as using your scraps more efficiently. I could go on forever, but whatever you do -- enjoy your new toy.

I'm an appliquer and getting sold on it more and more. I never thought that I'd even consider it. But from listening to others like you on blog land - well____

Christina, I had been planning on writing the same blog post! Well... except for the already buying a GO! I am still hoping for my 21st give away entry. Maybe? A girl can dream can't she. Otherwise, Santa is bringing me one. And that's that! :)

Linda said...

I agree with Scraphappy, think of it as stimulating the economy cuz you know you will be buying more dies! I can't wait to see what you do with it. I haven't sprung for one yet but my willpower is diminishing daily. Seeing all the giveaways and blogs that show them and what they can do has not helped...Yes, Christmas is right around the corner but Santa is on a tight budget this year! I might have to do extra elf duty or something before I can get one! Have fun with yours!

I'm still thinking on it, I see them everywhere, online but don't actually know anyone in my circle of quilty friends who has bought one -- maybe we are too far north and west to have anyone of us venture to the big city to find one as they certainly have not come into the shop in our town, YET...

JariJari said...

lucky you, Christina...everything quilty is simply much cheaper in the States....I can keep on drooling from afar

I have looked at the Go whenever I should see one in the store that I sometimes visit. I am sure it would be a wonderful item in my sewing room. I just keep on putting off making the purchase by saying it costs too much or I can just cut out my own shapes. But then I think about how there would be more time for project construction, less time going to the thought of cutting the piece out and ... My husband even asked my one time if I would like to pick one up while we were at the store and I said not now. I was absolutely not thinking at the time. I should have jumped at the statement and put a box on the checkout stand.
I look forward to your blogging about the Go.

I agree with you! I too kept entering contests, saying I will never buy one. Then I started thinking WHY I don't applique. Its because there are THREE steps to it (trace, cut and sew) - I think of piecing as two steps (cut and sew). So I bought the AQ for that reason. I still don't get cutting strips from it. But applique - heck yeah. Drunkards path - again yeah because I can never be that accurate by myself!
Good luck with it - can't wait to see what you do.
